Thread: ASUS N75SF and Ubuntu 11.10
all,
purchased new asus n75sf laptop, utilizes nvidia geforce gt 555m graphics chipset. chipset uses nvidia's optimus technology managing gpu load between discrete gpu , onboard intel chipset.
getting ubuntu 11.10 (oneiric) installed on new laptop has, far, been without success.
nomodeset addition in grub, can ubuntu installed, fails recognize nvidia card (no unity 3d; no correct screen resolution).
have tried use both bumblebee , ironhide, these appear unstable solutions (no luck far getting either solution hibernate/resume without hanging system). understandably, these pretty new approaches.
given state of optimus support, i'd happy disable 3d acceleration entirely if can stable 2d environment run.
ufortunately, bios n75sf not permit disabling of either graphics chipset.
this:
a) run ubuntu on asus n75sf without 3d acceleration (at moment, don't care , can wait until stable drivers made native platform)
b) hibernate/resume consistency.
has managed asus n75sf? if so, how?
much.
hi, have n75sf too.
use kde. founded problems:
- ubuntu installation process crushed. fixed acpi=off in grub.
- touchpad wasn't work. fixed yesterday, i've update bios (v214) , made system update. synaptic driver has been installed.
- multimedia keys don't work.
- subwoofer don't work.
- power manager says "battery not present"
- sleep , hibernate don't work.
- battery lifetime bad. think main issue in nvidia card. can't how set bumblebee or ironhide model. satisfied turning nvidia card off, did on asus u35jc: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1569380
wanted it, found inconsistency in on/off commands http://hybrid-graphics-linux.tuxfami...tle=acpi_calls . why off command starts "cardon =..." ?
think post corresponds previous post, help?
