i need on control of keyboard. when boot 11.10 , keyboard not respond until unplug usb , plug in. dual boot windows 7 , 11.10 - not mess in windows. same thing happened me -- except first appeared cordless mouse problem. after installing 11.10 (clean install) , booting it, unable select windows , move them. changed corded mouse , worked better. rebooted, , corded mouse no longer worked. changed older usb keyboard -- mouse worked. changed cordless mouse, too, worked. basically, new problem usb keyboard have been using years, without problems across half-dozen different windows , ubuntu versions. sorry, apart changing keyboards, don't have solution -- this, yet new 11.10 problem. hi,   i have 40k+ pictures in lr3. last month installed lr4 trial , started using it. created catalog xxx-2-2. did file renaming on several years , other adjustments on latest pictures. wasn't happy because slow , stopped using it. then started using lr3 again catalog xxx-2. most of pictures nikon raw (nef).   in lr3, no particular reason, of older pictures show wrong adjustments (sidecar). of time seems sidecar data has been moved 1 picture prior. dsc_001.nef has adjustments, cropping, rating, keywords, etc. dsc_002.nef; dsc_002.nef has adjustments, etc. dsc_003.nef , on. looks sidecar files have changed somehow name 1 step behind. in other cases looks adjustments reaplied randomly. have lots of pictures upsidedown, unusual since of pictures should straight or +/- 90degrees only. and have pictures capture time changed (the pictures mixed - sort them capture time). , that's wird, since no process should able rewrite capture time on several random pictures @ time.   there severa

hi all, i'm having strange issue since upgrading ubuntu 11.10. unity keeps freezing time time. ui stops responding altogether. no clicks or keyboard commands have effect. not happen specific interval or when particular program runs. has happened atleast 10 times since upgraded 11.10. upgrade, btw, had been smooth no errors. when freeze occurs, option left me reset computer. didn't try falling console. i'll remember try next time , unity restart. still unity causing problem. reason i'm sure it's unity causing problem on 1 such occasion, logged in through ssh computer laptop. able perform commands , reboot computer. idea, anyone? thanks. kaustav i did have few instances of that, along menu bar appearing , disappearing @ different times. no doubt there solution it, need machine general workhorse business....i don't have time fiddle around it. cut chase , put 11.04 on.

hey! haven't used ubuntu couple of years now, installed 11.10, , love it!!! problem is, after week of (nearly) bug-free operation, can no longer log in! password correct. when type in in login screen under correct username, purple screen, little glimpse of terminal, i'm @ login screen. more info: can log in fine terminals 1-6, can without precious gui. also, can log in guest, interface messed -no dock , windows cannot moved, closed, or resized. have use terminal shut down guest sessions. last session able log had buggy behavior alt-tab menu. using gnome. thing changed in last session set mysql start automatically on startup. want save day? i'm pretty resigned setting fresh install, insight nice. also, if i'm posting in wrong place let me know i had same issue upgrading 11.04 11.10. try delete ~/.xauthority file. fixed me. best thing rename xauthority.bak or something. t

i have make emergency backup of sister's home folder on ubuntu 10.10 box before upgrading. folder 9.4 gig. tried tarring directory i'd made, /backup, , came out @ 24 gig. weird! deleted again, , did compressed archive: sudo tar -cjvf marcia.tar.bz2 /home/marcia now, it's "only" 14.1 gig. compression! know why compressed archive 50% bigger original? now that's odd! sure folder 9.4gb? this started happen today. if click on dash icon , click on of options there (media apps, internet apps, more apps) nothing happens. if search application (ie xterm, gedit, terminal) not find , list documents, downloads , music files. if press alt-f2 , try run xterm , press enter nothing happens , remains on run screen. have attempted in resetting unity , unity icons. uninstalled unity-2d , reinstalled. rebooted , still same thing. appreciated backup , running can't run applications other ones on side dock launcher. ubuntu 11.10 unity-2d 32-bit updates applied of today i created new user (newuser) 1 user being used test out. logged in newuser, clicking on dash able search , run programs there. renamed affected users account directory user_bad , created fresh new folder user. logged in account user , once again able run , search programs dash. copied personal folders on user_bad folder user folder. lo

hi there, trying copy file desktop folder. accidently released mouse while hovering on .gzip file. ubuntu file system did not add file .gizp file. deleted contents of .gzip file , .gzip file contains file accidently moved it. normal behavior of ubuntu file manager? furthermore, .gzip file contained important financial data. there anyway can recover original state? thank you. mo on second thoughts of might have happened: 1. ubuntu file system deleted original .gzip 2. ubuntu file system created new gzip same name , newly added file content. so, may rephrase question "how recover deleted file that's not in trash?" also, i've verified peculiar behavior of system's archive manager. created new archive , put dumb files in it. dragged, using mouse, file on top of it. showed "+" sign indicating adding file archive. upon release of mouse, , examining archive, had added file.
