Thread: All 4 primary partitions - modify?


a friend has bought hp pavilion g7 laptop (win7) , guess what, has 4 primary partitions. wants me install ubuntu dual boot.

bit of searching , found this
(see method 2) how create extended partition / logical drives needed.

looks includes job of converting primary partition logical.

there have been lots of questions here hp because started shipping 4 primary partitions used.
least painful solution, , best in opinion, seems be: hp recovery software (or ever called exactly) offers create set of bootable dvds recovery factory state (as came). in case can safely delete recovery partition. has been advised hp support in lots of cases.

after deleting partition there no problem create extended in place. if feel it, install not standard root + swap friend, instead root + home + swap. allowing him clean installs in future when ever feels it, , keeping /home partition separate.

ps. forgot point out something. deleting partition allow create new extended 1 if need more space current recovery partition uses still have shrink 1 of win7 partitions disk manager tool.
