adopter of sata, , mobo revision compaq revision of asus p4c 800e. mobo great. has lots of pci slots , 8x agp slot.
want rebuild computer wifes grandpa big social networking , webcam chatting. uncle set him old xp machine runs horribly , fills spyware. grandpa isn't computer adept means. thoughts put 11.10 on , customize unity him make of computer tasks fool proof. he'll use skype, facebook, , email client of sort.
here question / problem.
mobo has sata, pretty new when came out. xp cannot install without unattended disc. used have, friend lost it. ( burned form uncle network administrator , had oem disk crapload of drivers pre-loaded ) bios recognizes sata chip raid driver , i'll need os install disc load drivers it.
ubuntu install program have such drivers? if do, suppose os run on pentium 4? compositing features might bit much, i've got sapphire radeon x1950 computer, (far more grandpa need, it'll work) don't think unity desktop hard on cpu.
thoughts? i'm picking cheap case tomorrow started.
