Thread: Best way to partition linux/windows dual boot system?
hello,
have been dual booting windows xp , ubuntu few years , use ubuntu. however, way have set less ideal. have 250 gb hard drive has windows partition, linux partition , swap partition. on top of have been using separate 500 gb drive(actually 2 500 gb raid-mirroring) data uses lot of space movies, photos etc, , stuff want share between windows , linux.
though, want have linux system split more partitions, can have separate /home , /usr partitions partition share data between linux , windows. wondering best way set partitions be.
also, wondering if possible , ok make /home partition same 1 partition shared data using fs-drive , moving windows documents path shared partition (something /home/windows/my documents) don't have manually add data shared partition. personal data put there automatically both oss.
thinking of doing kind of this:
250 gb drive
--------------
primary - windows c:/ - ntfs
primary - linux / - ext3
primary - linux /boot -ext3
extended
logical - linux swap - linux swap
logical - linux /tmp - ext3
logical - linux /var - ext3
logical - linux /usr - ext3
500 gb drive
-------------
primary - linux swap - linux swap
primary - windows paging - ntfs
extended
logical - linux /home - ext3
have little experience partitioning don't know if idea or how space allocate each partition. have advice or information?
if have little experience partitioning, benefit of having 6 partitions 1 linux install? secondly, can not put documents on linux partition , expect windows see/use it.
advice have 1 partition windows, common storage (ntfs), , 3 linux. (/, home, , swap)
unnecessarily adding partitions not make install run better.
