hoping can help...
did fresh install of oneiric on ibm/lenovo r400 (7439-cto). installed ccsm , went in change unity icon size- settings changed, no icon size change.
looked bit more , found 11.10 defaulting unity 2d (i can't remember natty did, change icon sizes, i'm presuming had 3d).
system info reports "graphics unknown", "driver unknown" , "experience standard". however, unity support test yields:

me, looks should possible... but, haven't clue configuration edit where... can help?

your opengl stuff looks correct.
can later version xorg-edgers ppa.
sure don't have to:
- logout
- select user (do not login)
- select unity 3d
- login password
glxgears run ?
what's in /var/log/xorg.0.log
