Thread: 11.10 Misreads Monitor Dimensions

i have ubuntu 11.10 installed on 2 computers: homebuilt desktop 19" samsung monitor , dell vostro 1720 laptop. on both of these computers have tried both unity , xfce, , both same thing windows -- overlap part of screen. on laptop, windows extend past bottom of screen, making lower border , resize corner inaccessible. on desktop, has proportionately deeper screen, can bottom of window, far-rightmost power/shutdown/settings icon beyond screen boundary, making hard general functions.

laptop problem, can resize window, if close , reopen app later, or if activate file save dialog, it's right over-large size again. it's getting bit of pain.

none of happens in kde, i'm guessing glitch must in gtk. there configuration can adjust screen size detection?
