Thread: loud crackling sound when hibernate

i have lenovo thinkpad edge lucid. hibernation works fine, except creepy sound gives every time hibernate it, right in second computer switching off. it's loud crackling sound, half second long, freaks me out every time hear it. sounds computer has died. have had problem ever since have machine. problem still on muted speakers , headphones plugged in.
has of met problem before?

can think of 2 things can make sound: hard drive, or cpu fan. both need checking.

how old computer , hard drive?

imho if hard drive may not bad. fan should stops smoothly. pets around? may needs internal cleaning.
