Thread: Started Dual Booting with Windows & Ubuntu - Seeking asstence

first off, it's first time using ubuntu or kind of linux distro , it's fantastic experience. however, there technical stuff need solving , appreciated if of can contribute solutions.
first, knowledge machine i'm using:
i'm using hp dv6 entertainment laptop (base os: windows vista) , upgraded windows 7 , dual booting ubuntu. ati radeon graphics, amd athlon-x2 64 bit processor. , i'll add additional information go along.

first major problem noticed fan's "noise". seems 90% of time, sounds roaring engine, hardly acceptable laptop. in windows 7, there no such problem since minimize cpu processing powers 5% (if @ 100%, cause same noise). suppose ubuntu doesn't have utility , maximizes cpu's usage , cause temperature go , resulting in increase of fan speed. wondering if it's possible fix or reduce bit of noise down. i"m relatively new "flash bios" thing wouldn't disrupt windows os? i've installed laptop-mode package yet don't know how turn on looks if leave laptop run on batteries it'll on....
did research , seems it's laptop's model's fault. i've been using laptop around 3 years , it's been fine windows. deciding factor whether or not i'll converting ubuntu in near future.

second question: need try update drivers (i've installed recommended updates on ubuntu) ubuntu?

if fan noise die down it'd great, otherwise i'd using windows when i'm around people low fan noise.
