Thread: Headless 11.10 and Vino
morning all,
i've done lot of searching , there doesn't seem answer particular issue... still, apologies if i've missed something.
so, i've run ubuntu headless , file server , torrent box. various reasons, prefer use vino rather other flavour of vnc. there's been issues running vino headless, have been overcome variety of documented changes xorg.conf. however, after upgrade 11.10, none of these seem work. i'm incredibly frustrated, , appreciate help.
i've got far:
/etc/x11/xorg.conf
i've tried variations on this, including vesa tags worked previous box , version of ubuntu.code:section "device" identifier "vnc device" driver "vesa" endsection section "screen" identifier "vnc screen" device "vnc device" monitor "vnc monitor" subsection "display" modes "1024x768" endsubsection endsection section "monitor" identifier "vnc monitor" horizsync 30-70 vertrefresh 50-75 endsection

i'm on 64bit, , running on new hp proliant micro server (which awesome way. ebuyer still doing them dirt cheap £100 cashback hp)

after fiddling bit, i've reinstated gnome classic sessions, , seem starting ok. however, starting vino-server still gives...
"cannot open display:"
more generic problem vino?
