Thread: Strange network behavior and I need some help..

i upgraded motherboard/processor/ram of 10.04 system weekend. have ubuntu linux box now.

- kernel version 2.6.32-34-server

- asrock 890fx deluxe5 motherboard
- amd fx 4100 quad core processor
- 8 gb ram (can't remember make)


new board has realtek rtl-1111e onboard gigabit network device.

works flawlessly except network. see output when "lspci -v", etc. won't load module apparently or doing wrong.

out of desperation disabled onboard device , installed smc gigabit pci card had in spares. card has realtek rtl-8169 chip. card not work.

strange thing (to me is) if boot 10.04 livecd network on either of these devices works fine.

did searching , found out hitting esc while grub loaded select recover kernel. did , used option drop shell network. network came fine.

lost. i've spent ton of time trying working on own , figured ask here. must have broken when trying compile , install network module card realtek's website.

think if network worked livecd have worked full install. when didn't tried compile driver search results.

again help/tips getting 1 of these network devices working!

new kernels load rtl8169 driver instead of rtl8168. it's known bug , fixed.
