Thread: 11.10 64 bit - Gnome Shell: keyboard indicator in top and bottom panel?

hello ubuntu lovers!

have question regarding gnome shell. behaviour find odd rather distracting or disturbing: have 2 keyboard layouts installed, german , english, automatically have keyboard indicator showing in top panel. there, too.

however, same indicator (with different icon) shows in bottom panel, other applications own status icons reside. wondering if there way outta there - don't need same indicator in 2 places...

out of curiosity, though, since doesn't bother me either. awaiting insights

thanks!
peace.

in upstream gnome-settings-daemon's keyboard plugin, gtkstatusicon created using libgnomekbd. gnome shell blacklists statusicon, since needed in fallback mode not shell.

ubuntu has patch replaces statusicon code appindicator, has statusicon fallback. problem statusicon made libappindicator has different wm_class name. guess best solution ubuntu make sure indicator patches gnome components bypassed entirely outside of unity.

situation causes fallback mode layout switcher doesn't display current layout. i'm not sure if either of these bugs have been filed in launchpad.
