Thread: Making Xubuntu ISO smaller - suggestions?
greetings all,
i'm looking little advice. i've built couple lightly customized xubuntu distros in past, taking off programs don't use or make room others feel more useful. it's handy able install whole setup @ once instead of having install programs individually afterward. however, i'd improve on last efforts more few more programs, , i'm facing problem: adding software pushes size of iso image on 700 mb. want keep build small enough still fit on normal cd. so, i'm trying figure out additional packages can remove basic xubuntu install without detracting system's normal functioning. suggestions? take out xchat, thunderbird, games, , built-in standard media players begin with. other packages might not missed much? takes lot of space in iso doesn't used once installed?
distro i'll working xubuntu 10.04. i'd make both 32 , 64 bit versions of system flexibility. way build system making clean install of xubuntu, removing programs , adding others, , using remastersys create new iso based on system.
suggestions guys can offer.
you might consider lighter theme normal (in particular, icons might use serious space). fonts don't use might use lot of space. hesitate this, unless use gimp lot (like do) might consider leaving out. honestly, kind of package manager other apt-get or aptitude kind of waste of space (lots of people use synaptic, it's more of luxury necessity). after that, gets tough choose.
