Thread: Instillation over broken XP

i have sony vaio laptop (don't have in hands right cant give model) had windows xp on it. computer got massive virus on killed os (so think anyway) tried recover system recovery disk. computer states has os installed. there annoying loading screen cannot surpassed, loading screen part of boot process. don't know if problem boot cd or computer itself.

if laptop hardware ok guys think able boot ubuntu disk , install on top of xp?

oh sure. bios won't read hard disk install @ when boots usb/cd, should able install over. ubuntu install write on xp , software producing annoying loading screen.

long you're sure that's want. ubuntu has few foibles, , windows software not run on it. make sure have data backed up.

depending on spec , age of laptop, might want consider xubuntu, or lighter (and good, although i'm little biased) lubuntu.

have vaio laptop, i'm never had problem hardware on ubuntu.
