Thread: Most browser multimedia plugins problems

os: xubuntu 11.10 64 bit
web browsers: firefox, google chrome

tried following multimedia plugins web browser, , faced following problems:

  • gecko-mediaplayer: failed play apple trailers apple website (always keep on filling cache, , plugin crash during cache filling).
  • totem-mozilla: can play apple trailers when visiting apple website, no sound when playing internet radio stream tunein.com, , no realplayer plugin.
  • xine-plugin: not work everything.

need solution that:
  • if or users need disable plugins, rather uninstall whole plugin instead of disabling it. because hope when other users of computer log on xubuntu user account, no need disable browser plugins manually. so, solution shall not ask disable plugin, uninstallation of plugins accepted.
  • can play kinds of embedded medias (including windows media, realmedia, quicktime, , apple trailers) without problems.
  • if possible, when playing embedded medias in web browsers, works smoothly when using windows media player plugin , realplayer plugin , quicktime player plugin in windows.
  • must not require me or other users boot windows.
  • work tunein.com well, , can use tunein.com provided controls control volume , playing of radio stream in tunein.com.

so, solutions meet requirement?

no matter whether have solutions or not, comments or suggestions appreciated.

well firefox. disable totem plugins except quicktime (they appear separately in firefox plugin menu) , use gecko-media player else (well install helix player plugin realplayer since gecko doesn't work well, hardly come across sites offer realplayer option)

done once , when set ff there no need manually switch between plugins.(see screenshot idea) though have disable things think first point satisfied.

having done step above rest of conditions work out.

don't know chromium though, don't use it.
