Thread: Reinstall grub2 with LVM and /boot partition
dear all,
had notebook ubuntu 11.10 x64 , fedora 15 x64 dual boot , following lvm disk configuration on /dev/sda (80 gb):
i decide upgrade fedora 16 using livecd , fedora kill ubuntu grub2 dual boot.code:/dev/sda1 /boot 100mb /dev/sda2 (vg_ubuntu) /dev/vg_ubuntu/ubuvol00 / 20gb /dev/vg_ubuntu/ubuvol01 /home 9gb /dev/sda3 (vg_fedora) /dev/vg_fedora/fedvol00 / 20gb /dev/vg_fedora/fedvol01 /home 9gb /dev/sda4 swap 10gb
i'm trying restore grub2 , have found many post , tried many solutions.
have tried repair boot utility "separate /boot partition" not appear.
have restored simple grub2 using ubuntu alternate cd , can boot ubuntu impossible restore grub on /dev/sda1 boot partition.
1 time have grub shell prompt @ boot , nothing.
have many grub, grub2, boot, boot/grub, many grub.cfg on /dev/sda1.
can format /dev/sda1 partition , reinstall grub2 lvm dual boot ?
must have reinstall systems ?
if provide me advices and/or steps it
kind regards
i not familiar lvm, know cannot have 1 /boot 2 different systems. end overlap of files cause conflicts.
1 system in mbr , boot thru /boot partition. ubuntu uses grub2 , fedora changed grub2 version 16, still have grub legacy.
if both using grub2, can not have 1 /boot. different kernels, slight differences in versions of grub2.
