Dynamic maxChars for Input TextField?

i have single-line input textfield fixed width, , want user able type textfield possible until full. font's characters not same width, if set mytextfield.maxchars 20 , happen use letters skinny, there still plenty of space left on in textfield. if use letters happen wide text overflow , make scroll right, cuts off left part. ideas on how i'm trying do?

as enter characters check textwidth property of textfield against width property of textfield.  use event.change listener detect when text changed in textfield.

Joomal 3.6.3 update error - PHP temporary folder is not set - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support
