Thread: GPU hung
first-timer installing ubuntu on cleaned hard drive. proceeded o.k. point on screen files loaded , "ready when are" message appears - continue button won't work. last message @ bottom of screen is:"ubuntu kernel [192.288547] [drm:i915_wait_request] *error* 15_wait_request returns-11 (awaiting 93 @ 88, next 94)". 2 messages above 1 mentions "gpu hung".
go here? thanks.
while waiting might know, here's mighty grey matter interprets question:
ubuntu installer (ubiquity) detects gpu intel i915 (or called intel 915?), , apparently problem.
if in fact gpu (which quite likely) suggest read on gpu in community wiki until reply - might find clue. maybe dab of grub-voodoo, specific workarounds, etc.
honest, though: you're better off trying distribution geared more towards older hardware. intel's igps aren't considered proper graphics hardware, , ubuntu moving towards desktop requires 3d acceleration. said, lubuntu or xubuntu might thing(s) you. i'd recommend without gnome shell (gnome 3 fallback?) , unity - kde's compositing can toggled on fly, though suspect i915 under severe strain then.
