Thread: Feedback on Ubuntu 11.10 - Sony VGN-NW250F Laptop Performance

i installed ubuntu 11.10 64-bit version on sony vgn-nw250f laptop after had ubuntu 11.04 64-bit installed. notice great performance difference between these 2 versions. aside horrible gnome desktop in 11.10 compared 11.04, cannot determine why ubuntu 11.10 performance horrible. had installed fedora 15 64-bit test fedora 15 ran fast on same system. negative media coverage have read on ubuntu 11.10, doubt continue use ubuntu @ time. may try ubuntu again version 12.04 (not sure when of when released).

had installed ubuntu 11.10 32-bit on same laptop while , ran slow. ubuntu performance bad not stand , went using windows 7 64-bit version on laptop (dual boot).

in fedora 15 (32/64-bit versions), web cam on sony laptop not work in skype 2.2 beta. sony web cam works in skype 2.2 beta in ubuntu 11.10 64-bit version. in skype, audio not work. problem seems more skype issue. in both fedora , ubuntu versions, cheese worked web cam, unsure of audio. did not test audio in skype 2.2 beta until knew video work. audio works in other apps. note - video not work in ubuntu 11.04 (32-bit , 64-bit versions).

providing feedback on experience ubuntu 11.10 had hoped continue use of linux distro. knows of ubuntu 11.10 performance on laptop. ubuntu 11.04 ran fast, ubuntu 11.10 runs horribly slow.

the solution ubuntu 11.10 (32-bit) install ati/amd proprietary fglrx graphics driver first before installing updates update manager. if install 177 updates available in update manager before installing ati/amd proprietary fglrx graphics driver, ati/amd proprietary fglrx graphics driver not install.
