Thread: Samba and Windows 7 (Home Premium)

i trying simple file sharing working.

failing.

using ubuntu 11.04.

have completed setup based on how-tos. , have tried find solutions google, many links not address issue.

1) on windows 7 machine, see ubuntu computer, when click see shared directories, dialog wanting user name , password. mentions domain (which same computer name). have specified in windows use workgroups. have shared on ubuntu machine (right click directory in nautilus, , share allowing guest access). have tried using cmd net share , credentials prompt. how fix this?

2) on ubuntu box, in nautilus, open networks folder, , see workgroup. click on it, after time passes, error saying cannot mounted, thinking should @ least see ubuntu computer , local shares. note: did set workgroup in smb.conf. how fix this?

well, came here looking answer, seem have gotten further did. have shared on ubuntu? go places->home->public, right click, sharing options, click on , put file in folder. when can see file windoze machine. use 'network" not homegroup, connects win7. now, i'm trying see folders on win7 machine ubuntu...."failed retrieve share list server"
