Illustrator CS6 Crash in Win 8 Pro

i'm posting see if else has encountered similar problem.

 

this morning working on project involving customer provided illustrator file. there new computer @ work did not @ all. artwork crashed 64-bit version of illustrator. tried restarting computer. ai cs6 64-bit refused launch. i still able things finished in 32-bit version. tried deleting aiprefs file , running ai .exe administrator neither of steps worked. uninstalled illustrator, downloaded (creative cloud) , reinstalled it. 64-bit version still wouldn't launch. worse, 32-bit version wouldn't launch either. on top of that, found out of other 64-bit cs6 apps affected. wouldn't launch or crash @ file/open dialog. other non-adobe apps, such mozilla thunderbird, behaving oddly (not displaying e-mail messages).

 

system info:

windows 8 pro 64-bit

dell xps 8500 special edition desktop pc

core i7 3770 3.4ghz cpu, 24gb ram

2gb nvidia geforce gtx 660 video card

 

anyway, has ever heard of simple illustrator file hosing of creative cloud cs6 installation? i've searched around trying find similar haven't had luck.

 

as of writing (being done on notebook pc) i'm in process of doing factory reset on desktop pc. got long road ahead of me. i'm praying adobe apps work after download , install them again.

no replies far. doubt if complete hosing of creative cloud cs6 install isolated incident. surely else has have been bitten bug. maybe it's not widespread recent microsoft windows update module broke support postscript type 1 fonts , open type fonts postscript outlines. however, widespread problem easy fix. 1 involved wiping hard disc , starting over.
