Remember last folder location lost with Mac Lion updates

since lion or mountain lion, have had annoying problem last folder location not remembered in illustrator. example when updating links on multiple files, folder location return last 1 used, go folder 3 levels higher/

fixes this. hoping else has solution having buy each computer costly somethng used work. software seems not have bneen updated in long time, adn don't wnat solution won't last.  on 10.8.2.

i've been using defaultfolderx since 90s. lasts.
