Thread: filesystem

how can change removable disk permissions?
mean should use /dev/sdb1,2,5 or /media/disk or other thing.
, relation between /dev/sdb1,2,5 , /media/disk?

actually, need give read only/write permissions attached usb mass storage device.
help??????????????????

the stuff @ /dev actual device. in linux represented file, , includes devices hard drives, usb sticks, cd drives, ram, etc, etc.

when system mounts storage, shows in /dev, actual filesystem on device show mounted somewhere else, such /, /home, or /media. /media default location removable storage insert.

if want change permissions files on device, you'd change them in location it's mounted ie: /media/something. note not filesystems support linux permissions. many removable devices formatted fat32, old microsoft filesystem.
