Thread: How can I kill the desktop and then start it up again?

when used ubuntu, used disable gdm loading @ startup, , used /etc/init.d/gdm stop or start kill desktop or start again. how can same thing in xfce? mean "master process" used start or stop desktop?

i believe proper usage is:

and in 11.10:

sudo service lightdm stop
