Thread: Cannot load web pages, but Ubuntu says I'm "connected"

hello!

have had problem on ubuntu 11.04 on laptop before, when did re-installed. i'm having same problem on xubuntu 11.10 on desktop computer. googled extensively both times, have had no success.

can "connect" router using connection button @ top right, not connected internet. when attempt open router's home page (192.168.0.1), connection error. in fact, cannot ping it, despite xubuntu saying have connected router.

i'm not sure information useful. here's output ifconfig, looks normal think:

can ping 192.168.0.72

can set machine on same network using dhcp , see if can ping also?

did try releasing , renewing ip addresses see if acquires ip address correctly?


wag.. im sure checked worth mention.
sure ip address of router 192.168.0.1 , not different?
other devices use things 192.168.1.1 (linksys dlink)
192.168.1.254 (2 wire).
feeling if using dhcp gate 192.168.0 last octet, did try 254?
