Thread: gnome power manager

yesterday, after many months of near error free use, unable log ubuntu.(10.04 lts installed using wubi) displayed message: "the configuration defaults gnome power manager have not been installed correctly. please contact computer administrator". able log on root , after experimenting , no success came bright idea : apt-get remove gnome-power-manager followed apt-get install gnome-power-manager. first part went well.
however...the install failed many messages saying unable resolve ubuntu archive sites. cannot remember exact wording seems me referring ip/dns problem. anyway...i'm stuck. any/all appreciated. hal

first, should remove residual configuration because wanted apt-get purge, not remove (look in synaptic).

see if package in /var/cache/apt/archives folder , dpkg -i install it. if not, find way on system , install it.
