Thread: Slow netbook with 11.10

i don't expect annoyed give enough detail of problems or trawl resources @ moment but:

upgraded 11.10 , toshiba nb250 hardly coping @ all. has gone sssllloooow, each click takes second or 2 happen, windows stutter open , shut, programs take seconds open. had fast, nice , minimalist 11.04. despite getting gnome fallback desktop make bit better performance has gone.

seems have filled (8gb) system file brim.

can tell, i'm new linux , annoyed! had netbook running on 11.04 , pile of pants!

i wonder if software cache doing that. try

and see if empties hdd bit. don't think have effect on performance (unless literally full), still...

wonder if symptoms describe might due overuse of memory... though, can due many other things, such problems accessing filesystem or faulty drivers/modules in use or need pass special options kernel or specific modules , on.

in terms of memory, take @ code gives you

its output bit strange, here's example:

according this, have 5844mb ram. of this, 1104mb in use while 2024mb-1104mb being used cache. seem have 4766mb of swap available, none of system using. note whenever system starts using swap actively, have serious performance issues (brief moments of system freezes, windows not responding or responding after lag, etc).
