Thread: Oneiric on Acer Aspire 5830TG (possibly problem with GT 540M Graphic Card)

hi all.

i've spent last 5 days browsing around forum , internet, find either messy , unclear (at least beginners) answers or solutions don't work. please forgive me if i'm repeating answered questions, wasn't able find solution far.

bought acer aspire 5830tg-6614 sole intention run ubuntu on it. tried installing oneiric on couple times, every time same problems, related geforce mobile graphic card gt 540m, switchable intel hd graphics 3000. i'm saying because beginner can't possibly positive.

first, in system info, reads "graphic: unknown". idea why happens?

then, animations suck. don't minimize/maximize/open/close window animation.

unity application switcher missing. when try alt+tab switcher, small , ugly icons of open windows.i wanted make screenshots, failed (don't know how capture screenshot while doing alt+tab switching).

after fresh install of oneiric, got notification additional drivers available. fine, official driver shown installed , active. might switch post-release drivers, didn't want , left is. after rebooting, additional drivers tool shows "there no proprietary drivers in use". how come? why drivers disappear?

noticed lap top heats ridiculously , battery runs out perhaps 3 times faster on windows.

searching solution, i've found out bumblebee project , ironhide project. if i'm not mistaking, should find 1 or other package, install , way should have support nvidia graphic card in ubuntu. correct in thinking so?

unfortunately, can't find way of installing of those. how do that? what's difference? should use? far i've found out there bumblebee project dead , succeeded new project called same (?!), , project called ironhide. find , 1 should use? how install them?

i've tried downloading drivers nvidia's website, end .run file , have no clue it. idea install @ all?

i've tried searching nvidia drivers in ubuntu software centre, can find nvidia binary x.org driver (version 185), if try install it, message it's not found. why happen? how fix , should install drivers @ all?

worst thing of have oneiric installed on usb stick, , unity works flawlessly. animation, 3d, application switcher, everything! how possible better (much better!) performance if run ubuntu usb stick installed on hard drive? if run oneiric usb, see hardware capable of running unity no problems, doing wrong?

in bios have option saying:

graphics: integrated / switchable

changing help? if so, when? before installing ubuntu? tried changing after once wasn't able boot ubuntu more, , time saw no changes.

there few other problems less important or think solved them, , there certanly might other problems i'm still not aware of. more appreciated.
