Thread: Macbook2,1 won't dual boot
hi all,
first post here. i've been trying install ubuntu using procedure described flash drives @ https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ho...%20usb%20stick macbook won't recognise partition startup disk. problem has been reported before in forum (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...5#post11361615).
have tried refit route too, in other report macbook won't recognise flash booting either. i've spent not less 1 week trying fix , i'm clueless,
idea appreciated,

dear carlos,
got ubuntu 11.04 installed on macbook pro 8.1 2011.
try tutorial on link:
http://studyblast.wordpress.com/2011...ssds-firmware/
of words hyperlinks, 1 of them leads ubuntu 11.10 instead of older versions. download version need have on www.ubuntu.com
follow instructions on site, able try live usb stick, install ubuntu, maybe not boot installation afterwards. make sure ubuntu installation on fourth partition @ max! made mistake make fourth partition swap partition, , fifth partition ubuntu partition. after reversed fourth , fifth partitions (format, delete, partition again) , installed again, booted ubuntu.
didn't boot ubuntu default though (you don't want either). have refit installed on macbook pro, 1 doesn't boot correctly (if select pinguin icon). booted ubuntu holding down alt/option key during startup , select windows drive.
don't know why worked me, worked me. make sure not install bootloader on sda on sda4 (if ubuntu partition 4 , have 1 harddrive in mac, otherwise follow number of partition installing ubuntu on). read somewhere grub2 can nasty things on macbook if not installed properly.
went through great lengths ubuntu installed , booted, hope can save weeks , weeks of googling answers. if works out you, please let me know, helped guy install ubuntu on mac. if doesn't work out you, call me loser , swear @ me want.
kind regards,
dracotux
