"Correct Camera Distortion" not available, why?

during winter have been scanning hundreds of 35mm slides. on pse 10 organizer. of slides saved jpeg's. of slides saved psd files , notice cannot lots of edit functions unless convert them 16bit 8bit. correct in surmising work in 16bit need full photoshop program? after converting mode 8bits can accomplish things. - can tell me why function "correct camera distortion" grayed out , unavailable on grayscale image. find have change image rgb color able use "correct camera distortion" function. can tell me why should or limitation of elements?  using imac if makes difference.

Joomal 3.6.3 update error - PHP temporary folder is not set - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support
