SMTP not working, possible username problem - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support
hello,
we trying use smtp settings feature in global config keep running failed connection error. can work fine using gmail smtp settings test when using exchange related service fails.
the company we're using manage email has created username "\" in login username. can problem? when in config file shows username 2 slashes "\\". assume server escaping first slash , causing problem.
as example how key details look.
send mail: smtp
host: xx.xx.xxx.xx
username: abcd-ef\forms
security: starttls
port: 587
smtp authentication: yes
i seem have issue using ip address host.
joomla version: 3.6.3
does see issue or have fix ?
thanks,
ryan.

when 'exchange service' assume mean microsoft exchange server? means (to way of thinking) it's not smtp service want use.....(no expert in stuff, can't comment).
if normal smtp works (e.g. gmail) suggest stick that, or create email accounts within own domain name - hosts allow create email addresses your.email@your.host.com
the set describe not i've ever come across, sorry, not me.
not sure ip thing, mailserver smtp.your-host.com or mail.your-host.com
the username email address being used "from" address.
