Thread: Getting Firefox and Chrome to remember their last window state and open UN-maximized!

long-time ubuntu user here (since feisty 7.04) running oneiric 11.10 64-bit. self-professed fan of global menu in unity (yes, exist! ).

after-effect of having global menu available in ubuntu tend prefer not having windows maximized. makes more sense me, suppose. but, no matter how many times try, can't firefox or chrome open un-maximized windows when start. opening new window in existing instance same thing.

extremely annoying have un-maximize windows upon loading. should open how closed them last! other applications do, after all. how "force" these browsers respect desired window states?

tried create compiz window rule fixed window size did here, since pop-up windows generated chrome , firefox don't have attributes distinguish them regular browser window (that pinpoint using "grab" function, anyway), couldn't make browser window open @ specific size, deleted rule.

here's tried:
class=google-chrome & name=google-chrome
class=firefox & name=navigator & role=browser

if knows of solution, i'd appreciate it.
