Thread: Question about Subsonic media server, statip IP, etc

hello,

have installed subsonic on desktop running 11.04.

have been enjoying heck out of streaming music collection anywhere in house (to android, roku, other computers) , seems work flawlessly except cannot figure out how access server outside wireless network. here i've tried far:

first things first, settings page in browser interface subsonic tells me forwarding port 4040. donated , have ability register web address, have done - status tells me "registered not connect (connect timeout exception)"
also, have assigned desktop ethernet card static ip address editing etc/network/interfaces. ifconfig tells me eth0 inet address new 1 created.

funny thing is, when go router config page, there list of machines on network (its called dhcp client list) , desktop still has old ip address. manually forwarded ports 4040 , 80 following instructions on portforward.com, canyouseeme.org still tells me can't see service on ports.

when type in new static ip address:4040 in address bar of browser subsonic login page , works beautifully.
i'm connected internet, assume dns names , stuff correct (maybe wrong assumption!)

i'm extremely unfamiliar networking stuff (as painfully obvious) appreciate help.
