Thread: A VERY useful utility- Easy BCD

want run ubuntu without destroying windows mbr? use "easybcd". it's vista , win7. kind of voodoo. using standard windows mbr , bootloader chainloads, among other things, grub2 mbr image. in other words can have dual-boot system without messing windows mbr.

why want this? well..

1) maybe have 1 of systems special code in mbr bringing hidden restore partition. don't want ruin overwriting grub did.

2) maybe virus checker or bios keeps bitching "virus" overwrote mbr.

3) maybe aren't 100% sure want keep linux. win mbr intact removing linux super simple. use easybcd remove grub2 entry , use windows partitioner delete/reformat/whatever linux partitions , "never happened".

"con" can think of booting linux not automatic anymore. have press down arrow , enter grub2 menu. may able use easybcd default grub2 entry.

side note: looks easybcd can create entries old grub , 1 booting macos.

update:
strike "con". grub2 entry can made default booting time few seconds longer. few seconds spent in menu pick windows or grub 2.

update 2: if did ubuntu install it's not late (except #1 there). ebcd can restore standard windows mbr. that's how uninstall regular install of linux. use ebcd put windows mbr , remove linux partitions windows partitioner.

nice post ... have been nicer if you'd told folks easybcd.
