Thread: NIS stopped working after upgrading from 11.04 to 11.10

nis stopped working after upgrading 11.04 11.10

have small network used run nis on ubuntu 11.04 fine. after upgraded master server 11.10, every client machine (which slave servers) restarted not recognize usernames in nis database. client (also slave servers) machines not restarted work fine.

updated , upgraded master server doesn't help. restarted portmap, seems work. when restart nis, fails bind yp server. takes 10 long attempts , fails in end.

setting nis (3.17-32ubuntu1) ...
* stopping nis services [ ok ]
* setting nis domainname to: [deleted]
* starting nis services
* binding yp server...
* ....
* ....

[ ok ]

checked

$ ps aux | grep rpcbind

root 621 0.0 0.0 27652 1688 ? ss nov11 0:00 rpcbind -w

, found rpcbind running. checked

$ ps aux | grep yp

root 6076 0.0 0.0 75352 1632 ? sl 16:02 0:00 /usr/sbin/ypbind

, found ypserv running too. when type
$ rpcinfo -p localhost
rpcinfo: can't contact portmapper: rpc: timed out
restarted portmap , still error persists. also, checking ypserv gives error:

$ ypserv_test
localhost: rpc: port mapper failure - rpc: timed out

killed yp processes manually , restarted nis , checked
$ rpcinfo -p localhost

time required services when try remake nis database error.

$ sudo /usr/lib/yp/ypinit -m

thought might rpcbind bug due separate /var partition (bug # 875471) checked version of rpcbind on master server.
