Thread: ssh over internet

hello,

having trouble ssh connection via internet. far managed create connection via local network. have 2 computers. 1 old piece of crap newest ubuntu server. second pc ubuntu desktop 10.10 open ssh client/server installed. both sitting behind router d-link dsl-2641b. have ports forwarded in router(see snapshot).

isp claims not block protocols @ all. when try connect use

code:
ssh -p 8888 user@internet_address
by internet address mean real ip. im trying connect desktop pc server. ppl outside network tried connect no success. claim doesnt long time , have abort. when try log message like

code:
ssh: connect host <my current address> port 8888: connection refused
anyone able guide me here? thx in advance.

can see port have opened @ all? http://www.canyouseeme.org/

usually, if response takes longer, means port open no service listening on port. can verify trying random port know should closed.

did tell server listen @ custom port or port 22?

~h
