Error message when trying to access plugin manager - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support

hi,

i error message when trying access plugin manager. idea why?

an error has occurred.
500 unknown column 'a.id' in 'where clause' sql=select count(*) `a5cf8_extensions` left join a5cf8_users uc on uc.id=a.checked_out left join a5cf8_viewlevels ag on ag.id = a.access `type` = 'plugin' , (a.enabled in (0, 1)) , a.state >= 0 , a.id != 746 unknown column 'a.id' in 'where clause' sql=select a.extension_id , a.name, a.element, a.folder, a.checked_out, a.checked_out_time, a.enabled, a.access, a.ordering,uc.name editor,ag.title access_level `a5cf8_extensions` left join a5cf8_users uc on uc.id=a.checked_out left join a5cf8_viewlevels ag on ag.id = a.access `type` = 'plugin' , (a.enabled in (0, 1)) , a.state >= 0 , a.id != 746 order `folder` asc,a.ordering asc limit 0, 20 unknown column 'a.id' in 'where clause' sql=select count(*) `a5cf8_extensions` left join a5cf8_users uc on uc.id=a.checked_out left join a5cf8_viewlevels ag on ag.id = a.access `type` = 'plugin' , (a.enabled in (0, 1)) , a.state >= 0 , a.id != 746

it strange. table extensions not have column named id - rather has column id named extension_id. surprising column name in joomla! 2.5.

are using third party extension back-end administration?

is fresh install or upgrade older version of joomla?

have installed third party extensions lately?
