Feedback required to setup CS6 based edit machine
hi
we independent film making unit , start edit process our feature documentary (mixed medium). have footage shot on dslr, avchd format, iphone, ipad etc. premiere pro (with gpu accelaration) our first choice edit platform since saves tonnes of conversions.
we trying put edit machine, later used animation purposes too. config have come with. feedback regarding same in context cs6 support great.
1) intel i7 3930k 3.2ghz 6 core
2) motherboard: asus p9x79 pro
3) graphic card: evga gtx titan superclocked
4) corasir 1200 w psu
5) corsair h100i cooler
6) gskill 16gb (8gb x2) ddr3 2400mhz x2= 32gb ram
7) hdd : seagate barracuda 1 tb desktop internal hard drive 7200 rpm
hdd2 : seagate barracuda 3 tb desktop internal hard drive 7200 rpm
a major confusion have regarding graphic card. have heard titan gaming purposes not many reviews out there in context edit renders , animation renders. please help.
the titan is very, , choice if build new machine today. have realize titan severely bottlenecked disk setup. weak point in suggested configuration. 2 disks not enough decent performance. take @ final results - reflections
the reason top position disk setup , 2 disks, if have faster video card, never among top-50.
if not invest in raid controller , many more disks, can gtx 660 ti or 670, since performance difference negligent, , titan seems overkill in relation rest of setup.
have read to raid or not raid, question
every system fast weakest link. suggest titan in systems otherwise optimized, @ least hexa core overclocked, lots of memory (64 gb), dedicated raid controller large cache , @ least 8-disk array, or better, dual octo cores. on 4-core systems titan overkill. in general cost of video card in balanced system around 10 - 12% of total cost.
look @ picture here:
these initial results our new benchmark cs6 , cs-next own system (top) , bill gehrke's x58 system (2-nd). interesting both use evga gtx 680 card , both use hexa cores. differences memory , disk setup. more telling steven gotz (4-th) did test , came out 404 s total , 148 s (251 mb/s) disk test, despite newer system bill , despite 2 disk raid0 array. non raided setups, disk test alone take around 310 seconds, assuming sustained transfer rate of 120 mb/s.
what i'm hoping show disk setup has major impact on overall performance.
