Thread: The one and only reason I'm not using Ubuntu for my main Desktop OS

1.8 gig amd (k8?)cpu <--it's 64 bit anyway.
4 gigs ram
4 gig swapfile ubuntu 4 gig pagefile.sys windows

love linux , ubuntu. love it! multitasks terribly on system. horribly! if want run 2 instances of firefox or 2 secondlife viewers or firefox , gimp @ same time following occurs:

windows:
app#2 loads bit runs well. app#1 runs well. both useable. both bit slow not bad. stay usable , run fine. can run 3 or 4 heavy duty apps @ same time! run bit slowly.

ubuntu:
app#2 takes looooong time load , while app#1 stops dead. app#1's window turns white. #2 comes white. both white while. app#1 becomes visible. #2's window becomes visible. entire screen turns white. goes normal. may run little while (10 minutes?) slooooow of great use. activating #1 cause #2 turn white. activating #2 makes #1 white. trying run 3 apps makes system locks , reboot. 2 lock , reboot sooner or later.

1 heavy duty app running folder windows open solid white , take 2-3 minutes show icons while os sits there saying "duuuuh".

not ubuntu. every linux i've tried this. ubuntu 11.10 far worst offender though.

if fixed i'd use ubuntu main os in second! yes did install graphic drivers (nvidia).

on crap-*** 1-gig ram netbook 11.10 runs dream. no black-screen bootup. no loading delays , no white windows/system crashes.

wierd on dell laptop ubuntu works extremely well. seems hardware issue.
