Thread: Send output to terminal
looking way send message terminal if logged in user not have terminal open. message pop in terminal window or similar.
example,
echo "test" | wall
displays message if have terminal open. if dont have terminal open, dont message.

you can set display environment variable , open popup e.g. zenity (see screenshot). of course can run terminal echo command in seems bit overkill.
