Thread: Install / Backup / Partition setup

i looking best way install linux if reinstalling has least effect. thinking putting /etc , /bin directories in separate partition. told me can put couple folders small partition , else resides on main.

have searched web best linux install practices , found giant mess of looking for. new , learn more if reinstall files , programs not gone.

also, folders need backup? have plenty of space.

on topic, read can setup /usr directory on single machine users on network access same /usr programs. unfortunately article did not go specifics , practices on doing this. know of article outlines how set up?

..........
essentially pointless.

set separate /home partition , can reinstall many times , not affect user files.

save installed programs list synaptic , can use file reinstall of packages after fresh reinstall.

keep copy of /etc same purpose (if think need configuration stuff). reinstalling wipe separate partition anyway waste of time.

people over-complicate things not worthy of time , effort in relation benefits.
