Does the eraser tool not work for images?

hi - i've been going , forth between photoshop , illustrator graphic i'm working on. background image traced in illustrator , colored in photoshop. it's 1 image saved illustrator file (the finishing touches done in illustrator.) now, want add letters (which edited solely in photoshop.) need erase parts of letters cover teeth. however, can't seem that! try select image of letter, doesn't work. going have use photoshop here? did save wrong? or not selecting properly?

the ai eraser modifies object contours, cannot work on complex groups, symbols or raster images indeed....

Upgrade 3.4.8 to 3.5.1 failed "download package failed" - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support
