Thread: Things To Do With Motion Detection #9: check your sleep pattern

looking new applications motion detection, took santa claus detection system (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...ighlight=santa) , turned camera on myself...and fell asleep!

more precise, trained camera on head , let run on night. in morning had bunch of video clips.

guess people have seen sleep pattern graphs show how alternate between deep , shallow sleep through course of night. "research" validate this?

armed libre calc , grade 2 c.s.e. in woodwork, set plotting number of video clips time (see plot 1).

well, looks promising. @ least goes , down. wait moment, number of video clips going influenced threshold set in motion. , video clip generated quizzical raise of left eyebrow should not have same currency full barrel roll!

second attempt @ number crunching (yes, i'm getting swing of now) value each video clip based upon file size (see plot 2).

looks more it. adding video clip file sizes , plotting 30 minute total value (in mb) seem have graph can hang hat on. there more tuning do, have admit leaving "gap" setting @ 60s default value.

started me wondering: (1) body movement relate depth of sleep? (2) how movement of nocturnal partner(s) influence movements? (3) sleeping on water bed invalidate results?

well, that's sorted, i've got give mates on @ cern hand sort out naughty neutrinos. science lark easier thought!

does body movement relate depth of sleep?
afaik, yes. when you're in rem lose muscle tone. you'd able move around when you're not in rem.
