Thread: Ubuntu running slow
hello!
first of apologise n00bish knowledge in linux.
i've been windows user life, , i've randomly worked macs till 2-3 months ago.
i've changed jobs , last few months have been working mac os leopard - @ work place. opened eyes must , took me install ubuntu @ home. thing ubuntu running way slower windows 7 installation, , tells me should opposite...
guess problem comes gfx card drivers. interface slow, gets slower when run flash content on firefox or else requires bit more effort gfx card. other works fine, it's damn slow , it's driving me crazy.
didn't format hd before installing ubuntu, i've kept windows 7 in separate partition till more comfortable ubuntu.
i'll leave system specs:
mb dfi lan party pro875
intel® pentium(r) 4 cpu 3.00ghz × 2
gfx card: asus ah4650 1gb agp (ubunto sys info says vesa: rv730)
on-board ac'97 random sound card
1,5 gb ram ddr2
1tb s-ata hd (ubunto sys info says: 170gb guess refers partition in i've installed it)
running ubunto 11.10, installed on hd from cd.
regarding gfx card drivers, system info in portuguese, i'm not sure if literal translation i'll try: when open additional drivers panel see 2 sets of drivers 1st 1 ati/amd proprietary fglrx graphics driver (post-release updates) , when try install fails (it tells me check var\logs\jockey.log... i've attached pdf info contained in file in case). 2nd has basicly same description, except "post-release update" thing , gets installed no prob @ all. but... see no change in system performance having installed or not! made me assume gfx drivers aren't working @ all!
don't know else do... if need more info let me know info , how see (remember i'm n00b).
in advance!
