Thread: macbook pro 5,3 isight woes under Oneiric
hi,
running ubuntu 11.10 (64bit) on macbook pro 5,3. machine has successively run lucid, maverick , natty. running fine (thank you, guys!) except isight camera.
camera used work fine lucid, erratically maverick , got lost since natty. dual-boot machine, on osx side has been snow leopard (also 64bit).
have tried isight working , have followed directions here , in number of forums describing problem. have tried everything, except recompiling uvcvideo, since not sure that's necessary.
have, example, recompiled isight-firmware-tools , extracted firmware (according previous link, should work snow leopard firmware). seems correctly extracted , can find isight.fw file in /lib/firmware:> sudo ift-extract -a /lib/firmware/appleusbvideosupportthe appleusbvideosupport copy of 1 in osx side.
** message: found firmware signature @ offset 0x29c8.
** message: firmware extracted in /lib/firmware/isight.fw
** message: firmware version 2.38.83 (0x02.0x26.0x53)
** message: apply patch 0 : fix device descriptor

** message: apply patch 3 : fix video streaming device qualifier
** message: apply patch 4 : fix video control interface descriptor
** message: apply patch 5 : fix video streaming interface descriptor
** message: firmware patched
however, ift-load seems unhappy it:> sudo /usr/local/lib/udev/ift-load -f /lib/firmware/isight.fwbtw, product id default in ift code 8300, isight seems 8507:
ift-load: failed init firmware loading
ift-load: failed upload firmware 0x05ac:0x8507> sudo lsusb -v -d 05ac:that result after warm boot in linux (coming cold boot in osx), result of command longer after cold boot in linux (i can attach if needed) in both cases idproduct same , bus , device numbers.

so, modified load.h file in ift code reflect this, isight.rules file in /etc/udev/rules.d/ directory.
after these changes find in kern.log file:oct 31 21:36:20 pmacmol2 kernel: [ 25.079345] linux video capture interface: v2.00i "no valid video chain found" message , no /dev/video0.

don't see message in system logs regarding ift-load, don't know if called @ boot time. nevertheless, if try manually load firmware, still see:> sudo /usr/local/lib/udev/ift-load -f /lib/firmware/isight.fwsometimes, however, after warm boot in linux (coming osx) different message:
ift-load: failed init firmware loading
ift-load: failed upload firmware 0x05ac:0x8507oct 31 23:29:16 pmacmol2 kernel: [ 24.796315] uvcvideo: found uvc 1.00 device built-in isight (05ac:8507)in these cases /dev/video0 created , camera seems "detected" various programs (cheese, gstreamer-properties, ekiga, skype) remains useless: nothing taken in video, green light never on. trying load firmware in these cases results in same message above.

appreciate if can show me way camera working.
