Thread: Cannot read files from external devices since 11.10 upgrade

since taking auto alerted upgrade 11.10 11.04, latter have run great ease , satisfaction 4 months, finding many problems.

major problem 1

plugging in camera memory card provides icon on vertical left of screen pop-out ['desktop'?] whereas in 11.04 right click , open reveal various folders copy folders on pc, card being grabbed movieplayer , starts play , avi files on card.

cannot see folders of still photographs. list of sub directories on card nothing can opened without movieplayer starting play avi files.

worse plugging in 1tb external hard drive, prompts usual icon on vertical toolbar nothing can read, camera memory card.

furthermore message;

more alarming when tried right click safely remove whole pc froze, has never happened ubuntu, , had force shut down , reboot. have not had chance check if valuable data on external has been adversely affected.


can please me sort out.


i novice please excuse lack of correct naming of elements etc.


would there way go 11.04? worked right me , few general computing needs have cannot see advantage in 11.10, major headaches , problems , waste of whole day trying took me few minutes of relaxed computing.


sorry negative reality ubuntu impressed.

i feel you, -- point have complained numerous times ubuntu not having version rollback option -- lots of folks who, you, upgraded expecting best, in reality, got worst.

unfortunately, unlike ms windows, ubuntu not have option roll-back previous os version. best can @ point, if can't fix it, off files want save , reinstall 11.04.
