Thread: 'Linux people' don't matter
to ubuntu , canonical's success. there, said it.
ubuntu not linux linux people. if use or have ever used debian, slackware, gentoo, or if work out of terminal, not ubuntu's target audience. ubuntu might work you, don't matter. kind of how mac os-x not geared towards freebsd or pc-bsd users, it's geared towards normal people (but hipsters).
@ mobile space - it's not bsd vs linux, it's ios vs android. android successful not because it's linux, because works (and while works in part because of linux, other linux mobile oses have come , gone).
why ccsm , synaptic not included default. average user doesn't need them. why there's paid apps in software centre, because average user associates quality cost, , willing pay. why unity main de, , not windows 95-esque de gnome 2 or xfce.
, 'normal' people, ones computer using habits not shaped windows or gnome 2, or don't have computer using habits, expect system work without fuss, ubuntu work.
(for record, i'm experienced computer user, ubuntu works keyboard shortcuts, can other linux distro can, it's efficient pros newbs, that's not point)
edit - way put - 100% of existing linux users =\ 200 million users (ubuntu goal)
maybe.
spread ubuntu then?
it's not canonical has advertising budget.
