Thread: Problem installing HP OfficeJet as wireless network printer on ubuntu 10.04

i have bought hp officejet 6500a plus all-in-one printer, want use ubuntu 10.04 wireless network printer.
before bought checked compatibility , functionality on www.hplipopensource.org , www.openprinting.org, , seemde in order.

machine autodetected , functional when connected usb cable, have not managed work wireless printer.
did:

configured printer on wireless network (through printer interface), , connects. prints out "wireless network test report", , works. can ping local ip adress.

installed hplip 3.11.10 , dependencies manually. did because default hplip in ubuntu 10.04 did not recognise device.

ran 'hp-check', gave no errors or warnings:

ran 'sudo hp-setup', chose device (which detected), chose wireless network, entered wireless security key. on configuration results dialog 2 messages:
"your printer has been succesfully configured on wireless network. may unplug usb cable"
and
"the ethernet cable plugged in prevent connecting wireless network. connect wirelessly, remove cable , try again. (vsa000)"
there no ethernet cable plugged in, can't remove it. unplug usb cable , click 'finish'. makes 'hp-setup'-dialog start on again, , printer has not been installed.

i not have clue know how proceed here, , welcome.

i imagine wireless printer setup wireless printer not connected wireless network (ad-hoc instead of infrastructure?).

if both computer , printer associated , connected wireless access point or router, fact wireless should not matter @ all. have tried setting network printer (appsocket/hp jetdirect)? lexmark color laser printer hard wired, computer wireless connected lan.
