Thread: 11.10 install on thinkpad x120 -- boots into windows (no grub)!
i trying fix sister's uselessly slow thinkpad x120 installing ubuntu. unfortunately, wants keep windows can use netflix , few other applications.
tried set dual boot, have done many times before.
created partions manually:
/dev/sda1, ntfs, 419 mb mystery partition existed.
/dev/sda2, ntfs, 36 gb preinstalled windows partition
/dev/sda5, ext4, 36 gb ubuntu (root) partition
/dev/sda6, fat32, 162 gb data partition
/dev/sda7, 2 gb swap
/dev/sda3, ntfs, preloaded partion, think recovery.
bootloader set (by default) install /dev/sda.
install went smoothly, when reboot, system boots straight windows without grub menu.
did check live-usb defects.
tried booting live-usb , installing/running boot-repair, no avail.
advice appreciated.

i think /dev/sda1 mbr/grub or /boot partition. anyways suggest reinstall ubuntu grub on /dev/sda... think of somehow grub did not install properly.
if doesn't try installing grub mystery partition after formating ext3-4 /boot , if have windows recovery disk or recovery partition. if not wait more technical experts.
